The greatest athlete of all time, bar none - Lionel Conacher. A world-class lacrosse, football, hockey and baseball player, boxer, wrestler and rower.

He won the Mann Cup, the Grey Cup, the Stanley Cup, the Little World Series (AAA), the Canadian light-heavyweight boxing championship and was undefeated as a professional wrestler, back in the days before it was scripted. A member of our national lacrosse, football and hockey halls of fame. Oh yeah, he later became a federal politician and, after legging out a triple in a parliamentary softball game, dropped dead on third base of a heart attack - an athlete to the end.

Speaking of the end, this thread is hereby over, thank you all for coming out. :)

Didn't USA Today once do a story calling extreme sports athlete Shaun Palmer the world's greatest athlete?

Lionel Conacher, my ass. Canada's greatest athlete is Gene Kiniski or Iron Mike Sharpe, take your pick.

    End o' thread.

Especially when Iron Mike's forearm was healthy.

God, wresting used to be so great.

Greatest single performance at the Olympics: Emil Zatopek at the 1952 Games in Helsinki where he won gold in the 5k, 10k AND marathon. That's damn impressive on so many levels.

No love for the Fabulous Rougeaus? And Iron Mike Sharpe had the slowest-healing injury in history.

Pam Anderson was a helluva swimmer -- thanks to the flotation devices.

It's a nonsensical mutation of what they are already doing.

Butterfly stroke... give me a fucking break.
