Back to Sharpton for a second. I also wasn't too fond of his revisionist history when it came to "We Are The World" and it's place chronologically in the pantheon of benefit recordings. He called it the first such endeavor bringing together a large group of celebrated artists, and of course "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Bob Geldof was done the year before. Plus, you've got events like the Concert for Bangladesh that predated USA For Africa.

Not to demean the song or the project, but please don't ignore history and claim this was a revolutionary undertaking.

"We Are The World" was inspired, DIRECTLY, by Band Aid.

It was an admirable effort for a good cause, but it was not "original" in any degree whatsoever.

Come on the guy was a "civil rights" leader. What? He didn't even want to be a black man? Well don't tell Sharpton that, it'll ruin his photo op at the funeral.

MJ wasn't a civil rights champion but had it not been for him, many minority artists wouldn't have been seen on MTV and other music TV stations. I'd like to think that he knew the power he had to change people's opinion about race and pretty much did so.
