Miami Herald outsourcing production jobs to India

    the irony of outsourcing the design of the neighbors sections - the most local section in the paper - to india is rich. word from my friend at the herald is that the designers are pissed but they were overworked, short-staffed and hated doing neighbors layouts anyway.

    Yeah, and if they think that the neighbors layouts will be the end of it ... they are fooling themselves.

    It is ironic that you are selling a very local product. Not many things are more local than a newspaper. Doesn't it make sense to hire local people -- even if you can get it done cheaper by outsourcing?

    When all the jobs from your area go to India, who is gonna buy the damn newspaper?

    Was it a small Cali daily or a Web site late last March that started outsourcing its local city council meeting coverage to reporters in India? Sick, sick, sick.

    Next thing you know, papers will be trolling the day labor centers for someone to do a 15-inch gamer.
