"Among several big-name investors who trusted former Nasdaq Chairman Bernard L. Madoff with their cash were New York Mets owners Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz, who may have lost as much as $500 million in the scheme, sources said."

    This story is just facinating.

Does this at all change the day-to-day operations of the Mets?

Will these assholes ask for a government bailout?

I cannot get my head around how something like this can get so large and out of control.

Didn't anyone die and their family ask for their money?

Doesn't the government run checks on these businesses?

You think about the accumulated wealth America has lost in the last year (I've seen an estimate of $9 TRILLION), via the stock crash, throw in the amount of money taxpayers are on the hook for (at least $2.5 TRILLION) and it kind of makes you wonder if we wouldn't all be better off if they just took all the bailout money and gave the same amount to each and every American. As of October, the TOTAL market capitalization of the entire New York Stock Exchage was a meager $10.1 Trillion
And to think the total federal budget for the next year was to be $3.5 TRILLION, (each trillion divided by the U.S. population is $3,333.00 per man, woman and child).

Wilpon's pockets are not that deep to uneffected by the amount mentioned.

No, you'll continue to get the same amount of spam since Microsoft seems allergic to improving their spam filters.

I've been wondering whether any of this was going to affect the new ballpark, seen how Citi was the naming sponsor. Somewhere, former Enron execs are smiling telling anyone who will listen, "see, it wasn't just us! EVERYBODY'S playing fast and loose with money!"
