My dad said if he had left work 5 minutes earlier, he'd have missed it all. Two minutes earlier and he'd have been on one of those trains. Instead he dealt with the backups. on his way home from work.

I've ridden that stretch of track I can't even begin to count how many times over the past few years. I have no idea how the hell that happens. I'm totally stunned.

Shit. That's the stretch of track I take when I'm home to get to from the White House area to the green line (I think. I know I switch trains at Fort Totten). Scary, scary stuff.

Hell, my condo is at the Takoma station. I don't live there any more, but I've ridden that stretch dozens of times.

HLN -- the only news channel I get on my trimmed-fat dish package -- has Jane Velez-whatever her harpy name is.

    First deadly accident since 1982.

The footage is remarkable. Just stunning how that happens.

Glad to hear your pops is safe and sound, Heatbutt. I know I have more than a few co-workers who Metro to and from Silver Spring every day on the Red Line. I hope I'm greeted with good news in the morning.

    Awful, just awful accident.

Still waiting to hear from one of my friends who takes the train in DC. Many others I know in the DC area who use the train have sent word that they're fine, etc.

Was that also the same year of the traffic helicopter crash into the Potomac?
