    Not a shocker here ...

    From AP:

San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman has decided to have surgery on the two torn ligaments in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season.

The loss of the Pro Bowl linebacker is a huge setback for a team that has Super Bowl expectations.

“Shawne informed me he did not feel right and thought it best to shut it down,” Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said in a statement. “The road to winning the AFC West just got more difficult, but not impossible. Nothing is impossible. Shawne is a great player and an inspirational leader. He will be missed. We wish him a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.”

Let's let Subliminal Man have a hack at that statement:

"Shawne informed me he did not feel right [because he's been off 'roids for months] and thought it best to shut it down [becaues his knees are spaghetti]," Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said in a statement. "The road to winning the AFC West just got more difficult [we play the Chiefs and Raiders four times, which almost negates the Norv Turner factor], but not impossible. Nothing is impossible [except my ego shrinking to the size of the sun and Norv Turner leading us to the promised land]. Shawne is a great player [well, he was, at least before he stopped taking 'roids] and an inspirational leader [a fuckin clown who makes Ray Lewis look like the class introvert]. He will be missed [he's dead to us now]. We wish him a successful surgery and a speedy recovery [and if it's only one or neither, we'll just cut his ass].

    Well done, Beej. :)

Shouldn't he just have done this back in February?

He'd do that dance except, well, that's probably how he fucked his knees up in the first place.

That and the copious amounts of steroids, too.

Are you really a Chargers fan? Did you just become one over the past four years?

    Chargers. Yankees. North Carolina basketball.

    The picture suddenly becomes clearer.

Merriman's a future Dallas Cowboy when the Chargers do let him go ... if Al Davis doesn't overspend first.

Cool. He can join Javon Walker and Michael Vick as inactive for week one of next season!
