I can uncross my fingers now. Damn.

I originally had JB Holmes as an alternate, but replaced him with Tiger after I changed the rules. This is what I get for changing the rules.

Not to self: Never listen to Michael Gee again. Never. :D

Freelance, don't worry. God punished me. Like many a real golfer at the US Open, I went from a tie for first to missing the cut thanks to the lovely 77 Z. Johnson laid out there to mss the cut, Vijay had Team Gee's low round with like a 75. Otherwise, boom went the dynamite, as my Woods and Love alternates were already dead yesterday.

    Ick.

We had 31 contestants this year, and in all, we picked 45 players. Of those players, only 23 made the cut.

That's actually a higher percentage than our field. Only 13 of the 31 teams survived for the weekend.

There were some brutal cuts, too. Slappy's team was just two strokes off the lead, but it lost two starters and an alternate. So, boom goes the dynamite. Michael Gee, who was tied for the lead after the first round, already lamented his fate.

And only three teams went unscathed, and not surprisingly, they're the top three teams. Maestro remains tied for first, but the Vibe Raiders picked up seven strokes in the second round to accompany Maestro in the top spot. Team Hookers stayed in third place, but now they're just one stroke back.

I used to think teams that needed alternates pretty much had no shot, but with the way this Open is playing out, I'm not discounting anyone. Good luck to the baker's dozen.

    Just throwing this out there.
Shouldn't those of us who have alternates performing better than the guy we selected from that same group be able to take the score of the alternate. Not just that, but someone who picked 5 or 6 that made the cut should maintain some advantage over the guy who only has 4 left.

It would seem that people that chose a guy who went 80-80 and MC'd, but had an alternate (possibly from a different group) go 72-72 are better off than people that went 74-74 (making the cut) while having an alternate go 71-71.

My own personal example, right now my Alt 2 Paddy Harrington is 6 shots better than my pick from the same group (Adam Scott). Shouldn't the alternate be able to replace the person chosen from that group (or the worst score overall). After all, they fill in for those who MC regardless of group.

Can we get a ruling from the commish?

KP ... you're stuck with that 80-80 for the duration of the tournament. You don't get the alternate's score for the first two rounds, only the last two.

And David Howell better have gotten that out of his system yesterday.

No. Alternates are not mulligans, they're subs you use if your starters can't finish. They come in when the starters leave.

I hope to have third round results shortly.

Like the sign says at Skyline Chili, we "have a three-way for Father's Day."

Vibe Raiders, Maestro and Roscoe's Rogues (who had a fantastic day) are all tied at 871 (or 31-over par). Team Hookers and Fly Guys are just a shot back.

Let me know if you have any questions about the scoring. Enjoy the fourth round!
