You would think TV execs might have learned something by now.

Fox News hasn't skipped a beat without O'Reilly.
Today hasn't missed Lauer at all.
NBC Nightly News is still no. 1 in the demo with Lester Holt instead of Brian Williams.
CBS Evening News is no closer - and no farther off the pace - with the much cheaper Jeff Glor instead of Scott Pelley.

I've always thought it was due to Katie Couric’s colon.

True but Today benefits by being the default choice of morning television. GMA tries but it’s not news.

CBS’ ratings are more prone to instability because they’re so far back.

I largely agree, but in the Nightly News instance NBC was lucky it had Lester Holt just sitting there in the bullpen ready to take over. I think Holt is just better than Williams, scandal or no scandal.

I've always thought Holt was a total pro - Williams always seemed like he wanted to be more of a personality than an anchor. That Holt plays bass in a band totally fits.

    Anchors are like quarterbacks.

A really good one, like Aaron Rodgers, can hide weakness from reporters, producers, management.

However, a news operation is rarely going to be in first place with a bad one. You can get by with “average” if the rest of the product is good.

So you are . . . somewhere between Brady and Peterman?

In my mind, I’m Aaron Rodgers but really I’m Randy Ray. CFL Legend.

I can’t even get that right.

    Fine.

I’m Andy Dalton of TV news anchors. Good enough to keep a job.
