Sorry to hear of it Jay. Best of luck.

To set the record straight, there were no layoffs at the YDR yesterday and, in fact, there are still two openings for news copy editors that the paper is aggressively interviewing candidates for, with the intention of making rapid hires.

Wow. Know a guy who just uprooted and moved to York. Is he safe?

And they couldn't shift people from Hanover to York? Pathetic.

  5. That was my question. Why not give the Hanover people first refusal?

I'm not sure. All I know is pagination is moving entirely from Hanover to York. So now the YDR is going to be laying out the YDR and the Evening Sun, much like the Richmond Times-Dispatch does with the Daily Progress (I think).

Pagination and copy editing will be done 100% in York.

The RTD prints the Progress, but they still do the pagination work in Charlottesville, as far as I know. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That sucks, Jay. Looks like you were right to worry earlier in the week.

    Good luck.

Pagination is still in C-Ville, but the MG brass now has something to consider.

Sorry to hear, Jay. Godspeed in landing a better gig quickly.

  10. Having spent time at The Evening Sun, this is sad news. One of the best things about working in the area was the intense competition (two York papers, Hanover, Gettysburg, Harrisburg) and seeing how the different papers handled stories both from a reporting and a design perspective.

Good luck to you Jay and everyone else in Hanover.
