"Meaningless games"

    I'm guilty of asking about "meaningless games," but as another poster mentioned above, I always do so in the context of the game having no impact/significance on the season as a whole (playoff seeding, etc.)

    Also: I don't consider bowl games--even the really, really shitty ones--to be a meaningless game. Ditto for consolations, losers bracket games or anything else that ultimately decides a team's overall standing.

    As a general rule, any game that has a point spread is not meaningless. And you better believe that Washington, Washington State, Syracuse and the MAC football conference thanks Vegas for this. And yes, every game matters to Herm Edwards.

    Wouldn't it be safe to say any game by the Detroit Lions in now meaningless?

    How can they be meaningless when the Lions are going for a perfect season?
