And it will never come to pass the military-industrial complex donates a lot to politicians of both parties. And for those companies, whenever there is military conflict, there is money to be made.

A Ron Paul/ Pat Buchanan ticket would be one I would vote for.

Channeling a former news editor going over hospital reports:

"Stable is not a condition! A corpse is stable."

"Isolationism" is impossible in the 21st century. Discuss.

I think we can close a lot of military bases around the world, but "isolationism" the way it was meant 70 years ago is not possible.

We can, but as noted, politics gets involved and things stay the same.

Whenver there's talk of closing bases or forts in the U.S., you hear an outcry from every politician affected. And it's always "Not the one in my district!"

That's easy to say, but how do we shore up a corrupt, collapsing Pakistan? How do we engineer an exit from Afghanistan that doesn't set a match to the entire subcontinent? How do we extricate ourselves without setting loose a new wave of terrorism?

We heard the same thing about Viet Nam. If we left communism would engulf the world.

It's time to go. We need to change our narrative. Ending the war would be a good start.

The days of us playing Team America: World Police are done. We need to fix things at home before we worry about what's going on in the Middle East.
