McChrystal: After ten years, the war in Afghanistan is half finished.

The US began the war with a "frighteningly simplistic" view of Afghanistan, the retired general Stanley McChrystal said, and even now the military lacks sufficient local knowledge to bring the conflict to an end.

The US and Nato are only "50% of the way" towards achieving their goals in Afghanistan, he told the Council on Foreign Relations.

Today's the 10th anniversary. 10 years. Anybody see it mentioned in their local paper?

We ran a piece, but it took a bit of a fight to get it in there.

I would have a hard time not voting for whichever candidate says all the troops will be home by the time his first State of the Union speech is made.

Having completely destabilized the region - especially Pakistan - it's going to be hard for us to leave in a hurry.

Serious question: By rule, doesn't something have to be "stable" before you can "destabilize" it?

He may be crazy, but Ron Paul's isolationist theory sounds pretty damn good to me.

How about "further destabilized?" Having installed one puppet and propped up another, we made things worse.

Those regions already were destabilized even before we went in there. Especially if you want to count the Taliban's rule as stability.

But can you believe it? See "I will close Gitmo".

We seem to be struggling with the meaning of the word 'stable.'
