McCarver: Manny's Lack of Commitment in Boston was "Despicable"

Well the reason Varitek wasn't getting the credit was because of Kerrigan. Pitchers were saying he did the right things, but most assumed Kerrigan was doing the heavy lifting. That changed in '02.

It changed when Varitek got hurt in 2001 and the Sox went into a nose dive.

  3. But he still can't catch a knuckleball.

Solid point on that, though it took a while before they were exposed.

    This generation's Paul O'Neill.

Where is John Marzano when you need him?

He's busy teaching Thurman Munson and Cory Lidle how to fly.

He's dead? Shit. Another former Mariners player with little to no talent gone.

That's all Manny has been (a mashing savant), if not for his "mis-"adventures in the outfield, and being eccentric, to the point of irritating the shit out of people.

McCahhhhhva (speaking in bad Bostonian accent) is the role model of Dr. Phil: a bleating know-it-all who thinks he knows more than the average person. The average person can use common sense to figure shit out.

BTW, McCahhhhhva has a point about Manny's hustle in Boston and in Mannywood.

He hurt his elbow on June 7 (and by the way, I was in Boston then and don't remember people celebrating that the catcher they supposedly wanted to ditch had gotten hurt -- it was kinda bad news), ending his season. The Sox were up a game in the standings that day. As late as July 21, they were tied for first. Citing Varitek's injury as a reason for that team's failure to make the playoffs is fine, but you're taking the cause-and-effect thing way too far.
