McCain recited Steelers defensive lineup to captors

    It's possible, sure.

But for a guy growing up in Virginia and with no discernable ties to Western Pa. -- although his first marriage was to a girl from Philly -- to become such a fan of a mediocre Steelers team that 40 years later he would claim -- to a Pittsburgh radio station, no less -- to remember reciting the names of a little-known defensive line to his Vietnamese captors during the war?

Sorry, that sets off the B.S. meter a little too much.

Every reference to this that I've ever heard, for all the years that McCain has been a public figure, it was the Packers.

Exactly. According to profootballreference, the starters for the 66 Steelers on the d-line were Ben McGee, Ken Kortas, Chuck Hinton and Lloyd Voss. If he did name them as his squadron, I wouldn't blame the VietCong one bit for believing him.

And that's why the Steelers line is so troubling.

It's either a case of lying to pander or a major mis-rememberization [/GWB] by McCain.

The Packers thing, however, is crazy clever. I've always liked that story.

I hope he comes clean on why he said Steelers this time.

Skronski, Thurston, Curry, Kramer and Gregg. I would say that would make a hell of a squadron, but Lombardi didn't believe in air wars.

I think that Abdul Salaam has spent the past 4 years in Gitmo

That's longer than Mark Gastineau's boxing career.

Will that count as three votes?

Like the Viet Cong would know what the hell McCain was talking about?

He could have said Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey.

Hell, why not Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr?

I would have listed Cirillo, Valentin, Vina and Jaha, but that's just me.
