I really liked his latest piece in Rolling Stone on Ohio Congressman Jean Schmidt. Fantastic blast job, IMO. I don't have the link, maybe someone here can find it and post it. The more of Taibbi I read the more I'm becoming a fan.

His one-trick pony needs to be put down.
I found it interesting in his article on the worst Congress ever included a Top 10 of the worst members.

    Gee, 9 Republicans! Go figure!

  3. Gee, you don't suppose that could be because the R's have been governing unilaterally for six years, do you?

So? You mean there are no bad Dems?
I cannot stand to read him, I'd take him more serious if he didn't ram his point down our throats by calling members of Congress assholes and fuckers. It's juvenile, and not what a journo should be.

  5. I agree that MT is overrated and his invective, tiresome.
But this GOP congressional majority is sui generis in US history.

No argument from me on that one, F_B,.
But it's bad on both sides.

I'm pretty much of a religious Rolling Stone reader. And I'll admit, I find some of Taibbi's stuff embarrassingly entertaining (I hold anyone in high esteem who can and will characterize Tom DeLay as having "an asscrack face.")

On top of that, I'm about as left-leaning, anti religious-right, anti-war as it comes.

And while I don't doubt the journalistic effort behind RS's political pieces, there are times when even I'm left staggering from it's tunnel vision w/r/t the GOP.

Yes, I would say most Republican politicians, along with a goodly portion of the Christian community, are responsible for the social/cultural/environmental/fiscal/international/constitutional situation we're in. But good grief, that doesn't mean a Democrat's blood will heal the sick, for fuck's sake.

There is, I am sure, graft and corruption aplenty on the left side as well. And while I admire RS's nobility, I would like to point out that a true effort to educate the public involves even the sides we'd rather not see judged harshly.

Democratic politicians are still often politicians, after all.

  8. I used to subscribe to RS, but I quit a few years ago when their GOP bashing got too over the top. Sad to see it appears to have gotten worse.

Stick to music, guys and gals. You're much better at that than at even-handed political commentary.

They're even worse at music commentary.

  10. Do they give you guys a handbook with a vocabulary you're required to use when you register as Republicans?

Any criticism at all of Republicans = Republican bashing
Any criticism of Republican foreign policy = treason
Any taxes that rich people have to pay = socialism

It's tiresome. Get a new act.

Yes. This is the magazine that gave the Killers' new album two stars yet gave 3 1/2 to both Paris Hilton and Fergie. Yeah, they're on top of things.

Hell, a recent review made the latest by My Chemical Romance sound like fucking Exile on Main Street.

Um, guys? No. Just...no. Music is a matter of subjective taste, unless it's music favored by 15-year olds with bad dye jobs, eyeliner and clothing from Hot Topic. Then it just sucks. This is not up for debate. It is one thing, during this period of political and social devide, that we all should agree on.
