Matt Taibbi is no better than Ann Coulter

From his piece on Dick Cheney this week:

"If is strangely violent and outspoken world tour proved anything, it's that Cheney is still the same bloodless, vicious cocksucker he's been all along."

Is that not a gay slur? And beyond that, it's juvenile, base and sullies not only his piece, but the rest of the magazine. It's not edgy. It's not funny. It's simply mean-spirited and personal and it undermines his credibility.

Tabbai could be a terrific persuasive writer. If only he'd grow up.

  2. HST once wrote that Dubya was a pigfucker. Is that a bestiality slur?

IMO, cocksucker has become like motherfucker. If Taibbi had written f-g, or pillow-biter, or something else, you'd have a point. I'm sure others will disagree.

If nothing else, he should be way more careful and cognizant while his side is busy roasting Coulter over a comparable transgression.

It sullies the rest of the magazine? Dude writes for Rolling Stone. That\'s like saying the little tattoo Britney got on her wrist sullied her image. RS is about 20 years past the sullying point.

I like Ann Coulter. Unlike Al Franken, she has a brain.

And like Al Franken, she has a penis.

See, that's something that gets repeated so much that people think it must be true - but it's not.

The political coverage isn't balanced and they do have some fluff celebrity stuff, but Travers is a stellar movie critic, there are more far-ranging music reviews than they've ever had, and a lot of the longer-form features - like Evan Wright's stuff on the Marines in Iraq two or three years ago, the story on the radical environmentalists that ran last fall, etc., etc., etc. - are top-notch. Plus, the magazine does a very good job covering the music industry in an age when it seems like it would be tougher and tougher to do so, and it does it without being a shill.

So, yes, when Tabbai resorts to name-calling and profanity in a story that's sells itself as a serious critique of Cheney's running roughshod over the executive branch, then, yes, it sullies the rest of the book.

    "Go fuck yourself."

Pretty sure Coulter has never gotten pigfucker or cocksucker in print.

In Taibbi's defense, he always rips Democrats unmercilessly, but it's the traditional rip. Dems are feckless and weak, GOPers evil and heartless.
