So, A_F, that's three stories that say ... uh, we don't know anything.

What is your basis for believing the Yankees have already bid more than the Red Sox?

Can anyone read Japanese and check out what the newspapers in Japan are writing?

""""""""""""""3) They win the right to negotiate and work out a side deal with the Yankees, in which they negotiate a contract with Boras and they immediately trade Matsuzaka and get some prospects in return. Am I missing anything here?"""""""""""""

Just that they would be paying an awful lot just for some prospects. (50 mill)

Also, I have read recently that MLB, somehow, has made it known to the bidders that they better be serious about negotiations. How I am not sure, but somehow they are trying to make sure all the bids are serious, legit bids.

I'm guessing they would make the other team pay a decent chunk of the fee. At the same time, lets say Boston ends up paying 15 mil of the fee. That might be worth it to ensure that the pitcher doesn't end up on the Yankees or Angels.

My Japanese isn't good enough for the real thing, but here's the English-language papers on Matsuzaka and other possible moves:

The Asahi Shimbun didn't have anything worth mentioning.

The Seibu Lions will hold a board of directors meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss whether the club will accept the highest bid from an as yet undisclosed major league club for Japanese right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka.

The Lions intend to respond to the offer via the Japanese baseball commissioner's office by the deadline of 7 a.m. Wednesday morning (5 p.m. Tuesday EST).
