He great talent around him. The O-line,Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and a great defense. Barry played with....*drum roll*.....Scott Mitchell.

This is an unfair criticism. Football is, in many ways, about highlights.

Lynn Swann and Joe Namath, to name two, are not from the highlight generation. Yet they are in the Hall of Fame because their highlights are so memorable. Their numbers aren't superfantastic... Unlike baseball, which is way more about cumulative numbers, football is about the things you remember a player doing.

Sanders did things on a football field that made people stop and look on with dropped jaws. That's special.

Hey, Sanders had the great WAYNE FONTES coaching him! At least he got the Lions into the playoffs.

the cowboys stopped beinig a super team in 1996. after that they were just an average, aging ordinary team with a string of coaches (switzer, gailey, campo) as bad or worse than the lions. from 1996 on, emmitt still piled up 9,399 yards and 68 rushing TDs and still averaged 4 yards a carry. he was good.

But even after 96', you could still argue that the Cowboys were better than the Lions. If Barry would've not retired, he would've broken the record before Emmitt.

one reason the cowboys were still good: they had emmitt.

just like it's not jim brown's fault that he dominated a primitive game made up of slow, undersized players who held odd jobs in the off-season and couldn't train year-round, it's not emmitt's fault that barry was a quitter.

It has nothing to do with quitting. It's about who was the better player. If Barry would've stayed, he would've broken the record before Emmitt. Period.

Oh come on man, let's be real. He would've broken the record.

  11. He should be in the conversation, no doubt.
