Marriott going 100% smoke-free

Actually, I drive a hybrid. :) But I don't stand next to cars sucking down their exhaust fumes when I'm in a restaurant trying to eat.

Get over *yourself* Point. Crimeny, everytime a smoking discussion comes up it's the same fucking arguments all over again. Listen, smoke all you want. Become your own personal chimney. Just don't do it where I have to get it, too. It's my choice to drive on the highway; it's not my choice to have you smoke in my face.

I know we have to pardon you. You're an addict.
Oh, by the way, that stress relief you feel when you smoke? It's relieving stress that wouldn't even be there if you hadn't started smoking in the first place.
But I don't hate smokers. I hate the tobacco companies that make their money by addicting children who are too young to know any better and then unable to quit when they get it through their heads just how stupid smoking is.

Quit crying about it. Go to a smoke-free bar/restaurant and leave me alone.

    Point,

I'm curious about something. Do you have any feelings of guilt that your secondhand smoke might hurt children or people with asthma?

I'm not trying to vilify you at all. I'm just trying to get inside the smoker's head a little.

As for casinos...if I'm not mistaken, the old Silver City in Vegas (a hotel-less casino just north of the Riviera on the north Strip) tried going completely non-smoking. They ended up closing, not sure if the policy was a direct factor but it couldn't have helped. No way a major casino out there ever goes all non-smoking.

    Lugz,
    No. I don't.

I think Marriott's made a good move banning smoke, from a business standpoint. I don't begrudge them of that.

The thing that upsets me is the bitterness, hatred, condescention and downright nastiness that a small handful of non-smokers display towards people who smoke. We might disagree on some of our opinions on what should and should not be acceptable practice - that's fine. But it seems like there are a few non-smokers who have such a personal, deeply ingrained hatred of anyone who would dare smoke at any time.

I'm typically respectful of non-smokers and I don't go to playgrounds and blow smoke into little kids' lungs. I am more of a social smoker than a regular. I cringe a little bit when I see a kid in the smoking section of a restaurant. Adults with kids (and asthma) have plenty of options for 100% non-smoking restaurants. I don't smoke in my home, and I usually don't smoke in mixed company. If I do it's only when the other non-smoker makes the initial offer. I don't smoke in my car when a non-smoker is aboard, either.

    Smoke, don't smoke -- I don't care.

But if you light up anywhere within MY breathing air, I'm going to ask you nicely to put it out. Once.

Then, I'm going to TELL you. And it won't be anything even remotely approaching "nice."

Then, it's going down your goddamn throat.

    Lugz,
Kinda like that threat of violence.

That's such bullshit, starman, and you know it.

If you're somewhere smoking is allowed, it's your choice to stay or leave.

Good grief, the level of total crap on these smoking threads never ceases to amaze me.

    Point,

Thanks for the response... fair enough.
