Mark Whicker, what were you thinking?

Using the kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard as a lead-in to a light-hearted, mail-it-in, here's-what-you've-missed-in-18-years column?

I would imagine the apology column is being written as we speak.

Who's dumber, him for writing that or the editor for publishing it?

I have a high tolerance level, but that is utterly appalling.

    Absolutely fucking appalling

Can I vote for both of them?

Very unlike Mark professionally to do this in print. He's a funny guy and I don't think he meant any harm. Just think this idea wasn't thought out too well and editors probably railroaded it.

That's an understatement. Let's not make apologies for the guy. How anyone could get halfway through writing that and think it could be perceived as humorous is dumbfounding.

"Congratulations Jaycee. You left the yard."

    Unbafreekinglievable.

I love the guy, but I can't defend one word of that....

    Holy fuck...

It seems like once a year or so we get a "What in the fuck were they thinking?" column from a very well-respected columnist.

I would submit that this is worse than Woody Paige's SLC column seven years ago.

I would submit this might be the worst column to run in a major metro in the past 50 years. At the very least, it's a lock for WASW 2000-09.

I am trying to think of a worse column from a standpoint of perspective. Struggling to come up with one.

This topic would benefit greatly from a mass effort to dig up some putrid columns.

    Go forth!
