What the hell does that mean? That if you're a 12-15 year old girl in Mississippi, only the first statutory rape counts?

As somebody said, if she's not old enough to run and go get you a 12-pack, she's not old enough to play with.

 

This is the type of thing that makes me wonder how journalists with strong backgrounds and ethics can allow themselves to defend Daulerio.

Based on what's been revealed at least, he's not going after a "story." He's going after gossip that's hurtful to a 17-year-old girl. You obviously can't worry about the fallout for a subject on a legitimate story. But ... there's no story here.

She's of age. It's interesting to note the line Sanchez is walking. But not enough to justify the fallout for the girl. (As evidenced by comments from some of the cretins who read Deadspin, who have started just making crude remarks about her.)

Amazingly, Daulerio is so reckless, he makes a lawyer sending a threatening letter look peaceful and reasonable by comparison. Just because you find out something salacious doesn't mean it should be a story. There is supposed to be more judgment used than that.

Interestingly enough, though, I imagine Daulerio will be defended by many for his ability to tell a "story" no matter what as it allows his fans to heckle like puberty-driven teen-agers even at the expense of someone who could be their daughter.

Meantime, somewhere on another thread here, a columnist who calls out the practice of producing an inferior product to save money and uses himself as an example is labeled self-serving.

The 17-year-old in question was dating the Sein to promote her fashion design career.
