Yeah, pissing contests between writers is very productive and serves the readers. Hard for me to take a writer seriously when this happens.

Michael Cooke used to be editor-in-chief of the NY Daily News. He's also a Fleet Street veteran. It's not uncommon for British/Australian journos to take the piss out of each other, in print. It makes for a good read, according to Fleet Street mentality.
But geez, it has to go both ways.

    It's about what readers want.

And they definitely want conflict, wherever they can find it.

And it's not like this is some anonymous office spat being played out in public. Marriotti is on radio and TV so much that, like it or not, he's become a "personality" in the market.

So, yeah, I do think readers would have an interest in this.

It would be the last day of his life.

Telander was an all-Big Ten defensive back at Northwestern. Mariotti was the snot-dripping punk who never got picked in fourth-grade kickball games.

So you're playing the "He never played the game" card?
Shouldn't that be banned on here????

If one guy is tough enough to sit at Rucker Park for an entire summer and then organize a group of kids to play hoops in Bed-Stuy, play or no play, he's tougher and braver than most folks.

No, I'm playing the "a guy who's in the physical shape of a rancid marshmallow better not be the one to threaten physical assault on a guy who has participated at high levels" card.

I never played college sports, but I sure as flaming hell don't walk around saying "I would love to punch you" to people who did. And if I did, I would expect to have my head handed to me.

The defensive reaction to that "card" is hilarious.

It is a legitimate criticism in as many cases as it isn't.

I would pay to read Telander's spiked columns.
I would pay double to see Telander spike Marriotti's face.
