I didn't have a major problem with the lead. He made himself into the story already. He can't take himself out. Why not go the whole way?

But he casts some dubious aspersions here. Guillen criticizing a player for going out too much in Chicago, during the season, is far different than having a few beers after a game. There is no hypocrisy there. The crux of Guillen's problem, however real it may be, was that McCarthy wasn't taking care of his body after home games, staying out too late and drinking. Not just the latter. Should he have made that argument public? No, but it's hardly hypocritical.

And Joey Porter isn't an ex-Steeler for calling Kellen Winslow a fag. That would be like saying Porter is an ex-Steeler because he threatened to "talk" to Bush at the White House.

    Good point, Cuz...
Porter wasn't immediately punished by the team, all they did was put out a token statement that they "supported" whatever fine he got from the NFL.
In other words, no big whoop.

The White Sox, even as world champs, were a distant third as that city's sacred cows. The Bears and Cubs will always come first, always.

Jay Mariotti, ripping the hell out of the management and/or field coaching of a local team. Imagine that. Imagine the tractor-size testicles it must take.

    :D :D :D :D

  5. Especially when you never have the balls to face the people you rip, instead letting your beat writer take the hit the next day.

In the battle of assholes, Mariotti's is merely gaping while Ozzie's is both gaping and calloused

Everybody in chicago HATES mariotti and no players respect him. The suntimes knows this, besides that's no longer a newspaper but a tabloid rag.

He discloses at the beginning that there's history with Ozzie -- that's what he should do.

And for those questioning his objectivity, he's a columnist. He doesnt need to be objective. He doesnt need to be balanced, he doesn't need to be fair. He just needs to have an opionion, which he does.

His beer argument is kind of weak, but he does show a pattern that Ozzie always disses players who leave. That's relevant.
