So are many of the teams that will overpay for Ramirez. Practiced suckers, tried and true.

Boras is going to be a good boy for a while after what happened with A-Rod. Then he'll be back to his games, and it won't change much until it is realized that he is the client.

People in Pittsburgh would say Boras hasn't been a "good boy" lately.

The hypothetical numbers would be scary.

Boras, because that's how he does business, has no reason to show people in the Pirates organization one shred of respect. Wolf :: lamb.

There weren't many New Yorkers "who all of a fucking sudden" thought Torre "wasn't good enough for them." There were two guys in Tampa with the initials H.S. who thought that, but most fans wanted Torre to stay.

As a lifelong Bosox fan, Manny had a huge part in '04 and '07 and I will always recall fondly his contributions.

However, I was not about to act like nothing happened when he decided to dog it in '08. He got paid $20M per in those years for his performance. He was not owed anything in '08 for what happened before.

It got to the point that Manny had alienated his teammates, that's all that matters and he had to go.

Exactly. That wasn't just taking advantage of the badly-run franchise knowing the Pirates couldn't afford to lose Alvarez.

Boras couldn't handle the perception that he got "beaten" in the contract negotations with the Pirates, especially given his unpleasant relationship with Pittsburgh team president Frank Coonelly. So he not only put Alvarez in a bad situation, he also set back another one of his clients (Hosmer) just for the sake of his own ego and a few more bucks.

Boras never stopped playing his games for a minute. Ramirez is ultimately to blame for his behavior, but don't think Boras didn't give him an idea or two in forcing that trade.

Right. Because he sure as hell didn't have Clue One how to pitch to him.

While it remains fashionable, as always, to beat up on Boras, he had nothing to do with the grievance other than the fact that it was in negotiations with his client that MLB disregarded the deadline. The MLBPA filed the grievance, which was settled when the Commissioner's office acknowledged it was wrong to arbitrarily change the signing deadline. Alvarez was then able to renegotiate for a Major League contract. The only "game playing" was by MLB in arbitrarily extending the deadline.

    Exactly.

Maybe it would be different if his buddies like Millar and Tavarez were still around to keep him in line. But the current ownership/GM were not the ones who invested in him and he was beginning to act up, more seriously than ever before. He was clearly not going to resign with the Sox, so getting Jason Bay in return was a smart idea...I don't know the free agent market for LFers, but Bay has to be among the best they could have gotten.

Bullshit. He pushed for it, even though he knew it could backfire on Hosmer, another one of his clients.

The guy's a tool, and anybody who cheers for him is a sucker.
