Re: Running Derek Jeter Thread Vol. 1

Jeter burst into the league on the first Yankees team in almost 20 years to win a championship. He hit .314 and carried himself like a man who had done it all before, perhaps in another life. At 24, he led the league in runs and led the Yankees to 125 victories, the most any team has had from April through October. He should have been MVP. At 25, he was even better, he hit .349, scored and drove in 100. He should have been MVP again...his career has been a cavalcade of numbers: .343 average, 124 runs, 34 steals, 44 doubles, 97 RBIs, 212 hits, 23 homers, all achieved in different seasons. He is unquestionably one of the greatest hitting shortstops in baseball history

Jeter is such a God that he fucked Minka Kelly until nothing was left but a pile of white powder.

I love that he qualified that last statement. "greatest hitting shortstops"

?? You're acting like that's a backhanded compliment. Read the rest of the article.

Not so much a backhanded compliment as a reasonable evaluation, something you are not capable of.

Babe Ruth hit 15 "postseason" home runs (all in the World Series! Wow!) in 41 games. Jeter has hit 20 home runs.

In 147 postseason games. Nearly 3 1/2 times more games.

By the way, of the top ten all-time in playoff hits, 9 out of 10 of them played in the wild-card era (except for Pete Rose).

OK, let's look at who else is in the top 10 in postseason hits:

2) Bernie Williams, 57 hits behind Jeter. RETIRED
3) Manny Ramirez. RETIRED
4-tie) Jorge Posada, Kenny Lofton. One retired, the other in likely his last season
6) Chipper Jones. Probably last season, 89 hits behind Jetes
7-10) David Justice, Pete Rose, Paul O'Neill, Tino Martinez - all RETIRED

No one is even close to Jeter's record

Bernie Williams doesn't get enough appreciation. Career .297 hitter, 8 consecutive seasons over .300. 5 100 RBI seasons and 2 over 90. A switch hitter who splits are .308(L)/.292(R). Career .305 RISP. Played in 7 league championship series, 6 World Series and has 4 rings. Played in The Juiced Era, without a hint of personal use.
Not saying he's a HOFer, but there are HOFers who would probaly trade careers with him. Deserves to have a plaque and his number retired by the NYY

OH, the same fella named rizzuto the yanks kicked to the curb during his third straight awful season at the end of his career? the same rizzuto whose friends had to be, borrow and steal into the hof when he was nowhere close to worthy?

jeter has too much pride to hang on for as long and fruitlessly as the scooter did. and if he EVER comes close to sliiping as far as phil did, damn straight the yanks would show him the door if has hasn't the sense or class to give up the chase.

jeter strikes me as more dimaggio. he'll retire gracefully before the bottom ever falls out like that. the .260 jeter is babe ruth compared to rizzuto in his final years....

this is how outta control your nonsense on this subject has been: you've got me trashing a sweetie like rizzuto!
