Sinkhole in Florida swallowed a man whole as he slept. Rescuers haven't been able to get in to search for the body because the sinkhole is still unstable -- and growing.

I saw that on the news tonight. Guy was in his bed when it happened.
It was like some freakin' horror story.

So officials say the sinkhole will continue to grow, yet the photo with the story shows neighbors standing around taking photos and watching. I'd be packing my stuff, not gawking.

If this happened to the entire state ... net gain or net loss for USA?

There's a joke about eating too much Hardees sitting right there . . .

    -------

I have an uncle who lives somewhere between Tampa and Sarasota, they built a house and had the same issues, didn't lose a bedroom, but just about. Had huge foundation issues, and then the Insurance company tried to back out but was eventually forced to pay up. They ended up dumping something like a hundred or more loads of concrete down into the sink hole to try and fill it. They will likely never be able to sell the house and are now renting it out while buying a new home. Scary shit.

And, of course, the man's death shocked his tight-knit community, where neighbors look out for one another.

"Do you think he killed Gumby?"

This reminded me of the disappearing lake in Russia.
