Just saw where Mitch Mustain's old high school coach is now jumping from Arkansas to Tulsa........think Nutt is sending his resume out right about now?

If anything, this sounds like Nutt is pretty damn confident he can do as he pleases.

Anybody remember the last time when an SEC OC or DC left on his own for a similar job at a much smaller school in a mid-major conference?
It happens when guys get fired, but this a new one for me.
You occasionally see coaches land at their alma maters, like UNC's Torbrush, Torbush?, at Carson Newman.
You'd almost have to think he was fired or asked to leave and they are just saying he resigned. That's got to be a six-figure pay cut.
    Weird.

  4. Didnt Nutt take over playcalling after Arkansas almost lost to Vandy and Bama?

He said they passed too much and was too wide open and didnt rely on Jones/McFadden enough in those games.

Is he going as an OC or head coach?

And then (as I have posted before) he called a game plan (or approved one) for the bowl game that looked like it was designed to keep Mustain and others from transferring, because it largely ignored the Wildcat formation (McFadden in the gun) until it was too late.

Weird, weird, weird. Maybe Nutt decided to sack up and reassert himself as large and in charge.

  8. These are the sort of things that happen when the AD won't fire the coach, but undermines his authority by forcing him to hire a superstar offensive coordinator - one who is coming from high school and ohbytheway can bring with him several highly recruited players, including the nation's top-rated quarterback who ohbytheway had already decommitted from the school. (Purely a coincidence; I'm sure the folks who brought in Malzahn never anticipated he'd be able to bring his Springdale players with him.)

Problems arrive in these sort of situations, especially when you've got a head coach who absolutely must get credit for everything positive. That wasn't the spread offense being run in Fayetteville this season.

Going from OC at Arkansas to OC at Tulsa could hardly be considered a step up. But in two years, when Darren McFadden is in the pros and Arkansas is back to 4-7, it might seem like it.

Malzahn will be sharing the Tulsa gig as co-OC.

He must have been forced to leave by Nutt-ball

He took the gig to get away from Mustain's mom.
