Even a bomb or explosion should've led to a more gradual crash. As you noted, based on physics alone a plane doesn't just vanish. There's usually a minute or two where a problem is reported, then it becomes catastrophic and the plane descends.
This sounds a bit like that Air France plane that crashed over the Atlantic after leaving Brazil a year or two ago. IIRC, there was no distress call there either. Turned out to be some freak weather thing that basically slammed the plane down into the ocean like the hand of God.

That Air France crash was due in large part to pilot error.

I stand corrected. Still could be a similar situation, though. The initial circumstances of both crashes -- planes quickly falling out of the sky over water -- sound similar.

Good story in the Boston Globe about the possibilities.

    Four on stolen passports.

Yes. Incorrect control input after a loss of airspeed signal due to frozen pitot static tubes.

In this day and age, it is really intriguing that a plane could vanish so fast; here's hoping the victims may RIP.

I'm guessing the terrorists forced the plane to splash-land in the water intact, and it eventually sank. That's why there is no debris field.

I see the terrorism angle as less and less possible each day that goes by without someone claiming responsibility.

    Better get concerned.

    Nothing political here.

The way it was being handled seemed very odd. That part of the world likes to keep bad news in house, right?

What exactly is "the right way" for "the government" (whose?) to "handle" something like this?

Some 240 people are gone apparently without a trace. That seems pretty odd in and of itself.

The answer is probably not comforting to much of anyone.
