OK, feeling better. Just returned fromt he foreign exchange with 200 euros as her last line of defense if the cards do not work.

The teachers do this trip every year and it's their fifth time over for a couple of the teachers. One is the Spanish teacher and another speaks fluent Italian. It's one of the those overpriced, but overprepared tour companies. A couple hundred extra bucks for peace of mind is worth it, methinks, when it comes to going over with a proven tour company.

All 30 kids are either from her school or her high school. Seven of them live within three blocks of us so we know them well. One, in fact, has been our family babysitter for the last three years when Uma and I wold take a overnight escape from the kids.

Mandi's 14th birthday, actually, will be spent in Rome and/or Pompeii so that's a pretty neat experience for her to look forward to.

All in all, just me going through the last-day anxiety of making sure my little girl is prepared. I know she's safe, I just don't want something bad to happen if she loses her card, her passport, her cash, her laudry, etc.

Man does that brings back memories! I met a girl named Mandi on my last trip to Italy. What a NICE girl, too.

I'm sure she'll be fine, Ides.

    Passport. Passport. Passport.

The other stuff is great (Pepto, wet wipes, etc). However, I can't name the amount of times that the passport is nearly forgotten either by myself or others that travel internationally every year.

According to my wife, that also describes the toilets at the Vatican.
And they charge you for the TP.
    Since they have no money.

The most uttered phrase on this trip will be "You mean I have to PAY to use that bathroom?"

If two kids slip into the head together, do they have to pay twice? Is it timed and then door springs open?

Yep, and Specialist TBF got raped twice by those thing when I was stationed there. Very tacky and very tourist-predator-ish.

    she's off.

4 a.m. we reported to the airport where she got her boarding passes, checked her bag, tried to not stand too close to me so I wouldn't embarass her in front of her friends, went through security and disappeared down the concourse with 30 classmates, teachers and chaparones.

at first, I thought the 2- or 3-hour layovers was a big pain. Now I see the wisdom in that. Shepherding 30 kids from one gate to another in a 20-minute dash to get everyone checked in and boardly safely.

Who cried more as she disappeared into the horizon, you or her mom?
