    Hopefully the outgoing SE will give the APSE winner on his staff a fat raise before he walks out the door...

    As for salary, it depends on experience. I'm not going to throw a number out to back Joe into a corner, but I think the person who gets this job would be pleasantly surprised. Starting salaries for writers at the smaller MG papers are not good. Sports editor at the N&A? Let's just say I've made more money elsewhere, but was very satisfied with what I made here. If you want to know what the ballpark number is, submit your resume.

    I hear they have a sports writer on the staff who did an outstanding job as a sports editor out west somewhere ... if he's interested in the job, then no one else should even bother to apply.

    I did :) June 1 was my last day. I would have replied sooner, but for some reason it takes Verizon five days to turn on phone service. Yeah, I know. Don't say it.
