So, do they get an interim coach for a full season or do they steal away someone's coach right as the season is about to start?

Depends on when they admit he quit -- the school still hasn't acknowledged it as fact.

Still figure he'd do anything to screw O'Neill.

Anyone who has seen Lute regularly over the years knows his health has deteriorated greatly in the past 3-4 years; he seems to have the shakes. No surprise. A story the other day for the first day of practices said he was rarin' to go, but apparently he visited the doctor and then stepped down. Maybe he got some kind of bad news.

Mike Dunlap of the Rockies/Metro State is the supposed successor. Lute could be as charming and gracious as any coach in America, and usually he was, to those outside of the Tucson media, some of whom had the temerity to question that maybe he didn't walk on water as the Wildcat fans (and he himself) sometimes thought.

First of all, I hope he is good health, but I'm not sorry to see him go. His ownership of ASU has lasted about 25 years.

That said, what a fuck job to his players if this is not health related.

  6. Deadspin says Ariz. SID's office is saying report is not true... "Just a report by Vitale" and that "there is nothing to it."

  10. So an SID may be lying?

    Unpossible.

If there is any truth to Olson leaving, that SID should be beaten with a bat.

If Dunlap takes over as coach as expected, the Cats will be better off in the long run.

This guy has turned down almost every major college opening in the last couple years. I'm guessing he knew something was in the works at Zona.
