    Sally Jenkins: spectacular.
Jeremy: OK, but it's nice to get a leg up like that.
Chris Wallace: An utter tool. Doesn't ask the hard questions of righty guests.
Joe Buck: Has outkicked his coverage by a wide, wide margin.

Jeremy Schaap is better than OK... He's making the old man proud...

Yeah, I thought he was a tool at first, but his post-firing interview of Bob Knight won me over. He's one of the best around at what he does.

I am not against nepotism as a principle. But promoting a guy like this to a position beyond his experience does him no favors. I have to believe that if his dad was alive, he might have recommended a stint at say the Buffalo News before becoming an NBC News national correspondent.

Russert got much better since he started.

    But now he's checking out.

Time to write a book or start a non-profit that pays six figures but requires a fraction of the work.

    He was fired, right?

The Daily News had this snarky bit:

Network sources told The Daily News that Russert’s exit will not impact its coverage of the Republican National Convention or the Democratic National Convention as his focus had strictly been on covering Capitol Hill.

“He was never going to the conventions,” the source said.

    ...

The move was gleefully embraced by some Washington insiders who have spent years deriding Russert and still attribute his rapid rise to a coveted network news job to nepotism rather than skill and talent.

“He’s really been a non-player for a long time,” sniffed a rival. “He had almost a decade to build himself into a star and it just never happened — maybe he should go back to covering sports.”

As if covering politics is any different these days.

Maybe he's moving on to track down Brooks.
