It's pretty sad that a shithole convenience store with bread that's eight weeks old on the shelves is talked about like the end all, be all of quick dining. Yet it is so true. I think the chimis and burritos are what keep Allsups in business (along with the never-ending fountain drink specials)

Update from a blurb on Texas Press Association web site (even though it's probably a bit of old news).

—Jeff Walker has been named sports editor at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal after five years as sports reporter. Walker previously worked at the Abilene Reporter-News. He succeeds Patrick Gonzales, who is assistant sports editor of the Detroit News.

His first name is Jerry. Jerry Jeff Walker. This is his second career. Rumor has it that Ray W. Hubbard may join the desk.

Damn it took them long enough! Hasn't Walker bee the interim SE since February?

Probably, but those cheap assholes didn't want to pay him sports editor bucks so they kept the "interim" tag on him and gave the appearance of a search.

I heard the new SE, Jeff Walker, is leaving the business.

Does anyone know if Lubbock will hire from outside/fill the position?

Nice. Five years as a writer in this place, but nine months as SE was enough. Caveat emptor.

My guess: the company will go on the cheap.

Best wishes to Jeff, who is a good guy and a true pro.

    Pack up all your dishes
Make note of all good wishes
Say goodbye to the landlord for me
That sum-bitch has always bored me
Throw out them old LA papers
And that moldy box of vanilla wafers
    Adios to all this concrete
Gonna get me some dirt road back street

If I can just get off of that L.A. freeway
    Without getting killed or caught
Down that road in a cloud of smoke
For some land that I ain't
    bought bought bought
If I can just get off of that L.A. freeway

Here's to you old skinny Dennis
Only one I think I will miss
I can hear your bassman singin'
Sweet and low like a gift you're bringin'
Play it for me one more time now
Got to give it all we can now
    I believe everything you're saying
Just keep on keep on playing
