Love the artist, hate the song

I generally think Colin Cowherd is an idiot, but I did agree with him when he said "The Beach Boys had one great album. Everything they else they did sounds like the soundtrack to a car commercial."

That's a little harsh. I would say the Beach Boys' songs are ground-breaking through Pet Sounds (and on the finally-released "Smile" compilation), and there's a mix of good stuff and clunkers on the late 1960s and early 1970s albums.

After that? It goes downhill fast as the focus goes from songwriting to the cash machine of "endless summer" tours.

The nadir for me was the Kokomo song ... a crap song for an equally crappy movie.

The radio stations gave us Death by Kokomo back then. They played it every 15 minutes.

The Beach Boys' Endless Summer is one of the greatest compilations ever released. But "Kokomo" fits this thread perfectly.

    "Crumblin' Down," Mellencamp.
"Lovin' Mother Fo Ya," same album.
