The first song from that Lou reed and Metallica project is out:

I'm not sure the project will merit David Fricke's usual excessive phrase.

    http://www.rollingstone.com/music/blogs/alternate-take/exclusive-metallica-and-lou-reed-join-forces-on-new-album-20110615

"The record, not yet titled, features 10 songs composed by Reed with significant arrangement contributions by the band that suggest a raging union of his 1973 noir classic, Berlin, and Metallica's '86 crusher, Master of Puppets.
"

Wow! It sounds just like maybe the greatest record by each artist!

    Yay, Rolling Stone.

Seriously, could that be any more Spinal Tap?

That first song, by the way, is fucking awful.

The great thing about that quote is I can totally hear Lars saying it in his breathlessly clipped, nothing-is-more-important-than-what-I'm-saying-right-now English.

I'll have to hear the whole thing to pass judgment. But at first listen, it sounds like something Lester Bangs would love. Not sure if that's a good thing.

That song linked above, The View, is a steaming pile of shit. My goodness, this makes St. Anger look like Ride The Lightning.

Could this be as big a train wreck as parts of S&M were? I finally saw the boys back Lou at the RRHOF show a few years back when Lou looked like he'd never heard "Sweet Jane" before they played it, much less written it. Based on this song this project could be way worse than that. Spinal Tap-esque indeed.

For those who haven't heard it, Beatlallica is pretty cool:
