In an effort to prove she is pro-life, Komen's new VP Karen Handel tells women with breast cancer they can fuck off and die:

How wonderful that breast cancer has been cured and women no longer need those silly free mammograms.

The Komen Foundation has seen its last dollar from me and countless other donors.

I stopped supporting Komen once I read more about their overhead and how little of the donations actually go to breast cancer research.

    American Cancer Society FTW.

Found an interesting story in Newsweek a while back about an Idaho woman that was arrested for inducing her own abortion. The case was dropped, although prosecutors can still file recharges if they want. Meanwhile, her lawyer is challenging the consitituionality of the law.

The woman decided she was unable travel 2 1/2 hours each way to Salt Lake City for the nearest abortion clinic, which she would have had to do twice because Utah has one of those "informational" (cough, cough, guilt trip) laws that require two visits. She didn't have a car, and she figured it would have cost her $500. Instead, she had her sister, from Mississippi, order the abortion pill, which cost her considerably less.

She took the pill, and the fetus came out. She thought she was only 12 weeks pregnant, but ended up being around 18-21. She put the fetus outside in a box on her barbecue, called a friend, who called another person, who turned her in.

It's a case that both pro-choice and pro-lifers have been silent on. The pro-choicers, because of the grossness of what she did with the fetus, and pro-lifers, who don't want women arrested because they know if it came to that, people would shit on their movement.

And in her hometown, the woman's been ostracized and rejected because she ... gasp! ... had an abortion. You'd think it was 1962 in that town, instead of 2012.

And frankly, the case also is problematic for pro-lifers because it shows that women will do anything, including order abortion pills online, if they want an abortion. And they can get it from other countries. For all the talk of closing abortion clinics, pro-lifers are going to have to learn that eventually, advances in the pill is going to make the clinics obsolete.

Right, because Planned Parenthood is the only place in the world who does breast exams..... ::)

"Over the past five years, the Komen organization has given Planned Parenthood health centers the funds to provide nearly 170,000 clinical breast exams to low-income and uninsured women."

Horatia Alger never would have accepted that excuse.

Right, because there aren't a zillion other places LOW-INCOME and UNINSURED women could go to get breast exams...... ::)

Komen's annual contribution to PP was something on the order of $700,000, IIRC.

If every soreass who's tweeted about the Komen thing today sent PP a dollar a year, I'm pretty sure that would cover it.
