    I am loathe to doubt Michael Irvin's guilt when it comes to matters of drugs, vice or forcible rape. ... but I have this strong suspicion this one is going to show itself to be a case of attempted extortion.

    It sounds like a shady deal all around, not least because of the timing, but you have to wonder why Irvin's people were in negotiations for two years if nothing wrong happened.

    But wait -- ESPN doesn't report on civil suits if crimiinal charges haven't been filed. Isn't that what the Big Ben case taught us?
