Ah yes, the Olympics that opened the world's eyes to the cha-ching possibilities of the Games, culminating, of course, in the Coca-Cola Olympics 12 years later.
L.A., I believe, is also where the chant U-S-A, U-S-A went from charming (Lake Placid, 1980) to obnoxious, kind of like "You da man" in golf about 15 years ago.

The London logo that ran in our paper today was red.

It looked like a cubist tampon.

What I don't get is why the London organizers felt they had to do something nutty. It's LONDON, fellas. One of the greatest cities in the world, with dignity and history just dripping right off the name! Why not go conventional, and tell everyone who thinks an Olympic logo should be what happens if a cubist takes mushrooms to go fuck themselves??

Maybe I just dropped some acid but, is the second "2" in 2012 supposed to represent the island of England (and N. Ireland)? and the other numbers supposed to represent the rest of Great Britain?
The whole thing has a very "Flintstones" vibe to it.

Here I was thinking it was an acid-driven jumble of puzzle pieces. Now I see it was an idiot attempt at the numbers 2-0-1-2.

Even worse of a logo, thanks to that revelation.

Where's Vancouver's Winter Olympics logo. It's in 2010 after all.

That logo looks like Lisa Simpson performing a very explicit act, orally, of course.

This logo serves as fair warning that opening ceremonies will be over-the-top artsy-fartsy. Stand well clear when it is on the telly come 2012.

This Daily Mail article has some suggested replacements. The David Brent reference is fantastic.

Edit: Some idiot forgot the link.

They need to get KISS to play the opening ceremonies.
They ROCKED at the closing ceremonies in Salt Lake.
That was flipping sweet! Not out of place at all
