    For the 23,000th time . . .

. . . it is not the "agenda" of anything that is either good or bad for America.

    It is COMPETENCE vs. INCOMPETENCE.

Guns will always be legal, regardless of who wins an election.

Abortion will always be legal, regardless of who wins an election.

And so on. And so on.

Bush's party's ideology has not really harmed America.

    Bush's INCOMPETENCE has.

Is this really so hard to understand?

Not to quibble, but it will? It wasn't legal in lots of places as recently as 1973. And the fact that it suddenly turned legal had nothing to do with an election. If the Supreme Court hadn't gotten involved in the legislative process with Roe v. Wade (one of my favorites, because for perhaps the first time, they didn't even bother to try to cloak the decision in BS Constitutional lingo; they just made up a new right, ordained it as law, and didn't even bother to pretend), it might very well be illegal in lots of places today. Even with the Supreme Court in the legislative business instead of the judicial business, all it takes now is enough turnover on the court for Roe v. Wade to be overturned (nothing in the constitution will have changed, just the agendas of the nine appointees). But I can see any number of circumstances in this country in which abortion gets made illegal again.

In any case, I understood your point, but abortion was a bad example.

Yeah, abortion will always be legal because the right needs to keep that carrot dangling.

I like Pelosi, but there will be no hugging of grandma mammaries from this quarter unless family holidays are involved. :)

Just like with the Clintons, Gore and Dean, the media have their scripts on Pelosi, and they are never going to deviate, facts be damned. The average Sesame Street viewer is better informed on the facts surrounding the Syria trip than those who read editorials or watch cable news.

Bob Somerby says it best, and I'm starting to believe that it's not hyperbole: The performance of the shit-for-brains Washington press corps is becoming a national security issue.

Joe, the problem is that she's Speaker of the House, not President of the United States. Whether she likes it or not, George Bush is President and has diplomacy and foreign policy duties for the next year and a half. She was just out of bounds. That isn't her role or place, and if it's about showing up Bush more than it is being a good speaker of the house, she probably isn't a very public-servant minded elected official. The showing him up part would even be OK--hell, they all play power games with each other and engage in dirty pool--but the Middle East isn't really the place politicians should be bitch-slapping each other in public. It's the most volatile part of the world and it doesn't serve anyone's purpose to send mixed signals. In private, you know the Syrians are laughing at us today and consider us weak because of her grandstanding. She put a personal agenda above those kinds of considerations, which doesn't really speak well for her.

  7. No mention in any of these pieces of the Republican delegations meeting with Assad, or with Denny Hastert, back in the day, telling the Colombians to ignore President Clinton.
And, Ragu, even the GOP'ers who went with her have said that she was very stalwart in stressing the unity of the government as regards terrorism. President Fredo, however, and his enablers, are just flailing these days.
    Anyway...
The national media goes to work.

FB, Be honest about this... Let's say, for example, that Newt Gingrich had decided to go play nice with Slobodan Milosevic when Gingrich was Speaker, despite the Clinton administration asking him not to. You'd have been the first person calling for Gingrich's head, with Nancy Pelosi second in line.

    Ragu,
Looking at your latest sign/mask, are you saying that you're not friends with FOTF because you have friends, thereby disqualifying you, or that you just don't like him?

Also, you need to get some framed pictures or greenery in that office. Very sparse.

  10. I am being honest.
There is no evidence -- none, not even from the Republicans on the trip -- that Pelosi "played nice" with Assad. The Republicans who WENT WITH HER have said, again and again, that she stressed the unity of the United States government as regards to terrorism. (As long as we're doing hypotheticals, if you think Newt Gingrich would have stressed his unity with Bill Clinton on any issue anywhere to anyone ever, you slept through the 1990's.) Which is really the only issue we have with the Syrians. This is a ginned-up issue for the vain purpose of reviving a dead presidency by throwing the dwindling base some red meat.
And, I would point out that Hastert actually did undermine Clinton with the Colombians, and VP Al Gore didn't leap onto a talk-show to blast him. What is the sitting VP doing on Rush Limbaugh's show anyway? Besides the fact that they're both liars.

Look, in Texas Bush was a united, a concensus guy.

    So don't blame Bush.

Dick Cheney wasn't in his Texas cabinet.

The Republicans probably were like the poster who thought Pelosi was hot. What a little sex will do is wondrous.
