National contracts didn't allow local to do the game in 1980. His call last year was his only chance to call a Phillies championship.

    Sad, sad day.

I'm sitting here with my chest hurting and my eyes moist.

This is one of those days when we age much quicker than we should.

RIP, Harry. You were a gentleman in every sense.

  3. Yes, my youth is showing, thanks for the correction. At least he got to call the most recent one.

RIP. I'll miss hearing him on the radio for football too.

I saw this thread earlier and was hoping for the best.

This hurts because it's like another piece of my childhood died. I grew up listening to him and Richie Ashburn.

I was covering a Rams-Bills game in St. Louis and went to get a soda and he was standing there since he was doing the game for radio. I was stunned and couldn't say anything. There I was standing next to a legend.

At the very least we can take solace that Harry and Richie are together again.

    RIP, Harry the K.

I'm sitting here watching the Comcast pregame show, and I'm not ashamed to say I'm blubbering like an infant.

Breaks my heart. I am at a complete loss for words. RIP to a legend and the man who personified basball to me during my youth. God I just want to cry.

Thank God his last season was the championship call he deserved in 1980.

Wow. I have nothing else at this moment. Being a Phillies fan and a kid who loved listening to games on the radio, wow.

The guy in the booth has totally lost it and is crying. It's got to be tough to suddenly be calling the game for the Phillies radio station.

They did a moment of silence in Washington.
