A book I recommend: "The Seventh Babe" by Jerome Charyn (sp?). It's a fictional novel about a 1920s era lefthanded third baseman who plays for the Boston Red Sox and ends up banned from baseball and spends the rest of his life playing for and owning a Negro League team.

Strikeouts are fascist. Ground balls are socialist.

    Re: Kids and sports.

My 6-year-old had his first sparring session in taekwondo last night. I don't know jack about taekwondo. But the kid loves it. So we show up, and after all the other stuff, they finally get to sparring, and he gets paired with an 8-year-old with longer reach.

My son spent three minutes getting his ass kicked in front of a lot of other kids.

Afterward, he came up to me wanting another go at the little sumbitch.

    I've never been prouder.

This won't help with sporting questions, but if he turns his paper sideways to write, don't yell at him. Sometimes it really is more comfortable for a lefty to write that way, despite how twisted it looks.

An aunt of mine went to Catholic school and they used to hit her left hand with a ruler every time she wrote with it. She's right-handed now.

I'd probably convert and take up pitching. Hey, it worked in the past.

I had several people try to get me to switch hands when I was little. I still have people now who try to insist doing things right-handed would be better for me. I don't understand what the deal is with the anti-lefty world.

I have to cut right-handed. I blame the government.

I cut right-handed too but never thought about it until I read this post.

I too cut right-handed, but while I'm cutting I cah keep a pen in my left hand while guiding the paper. When I'm done cutting, I don't have to look for the pen.
