Man if it takes the red track towards the DR it'll make landfall right in downtown Santo Domingo.

But it'll also shoot its wad on Hispaniola and hit the East Coast as only a Cat 1 or tropical storm.

As of right now, this thing has Cancun written all over it.

It will need a change in attitude and a change in latitude, I'm afraid.

Speaking of, how long before gas spikes a good 20 cents?

If it hits Hispanola head on it won't be much more than a light gust of wind after it gets to the other side. The mountains will pretty much break it up.

It depends on how long it lingers over the island and how it hits. Oftentimes, yeah, Hispanola shreds tropical systems. But Jeanne in 2004 got ripped open after going legnthwise through the island, but recovered after a loop in the Atlantic and slammed into Central Florida as a Cat 3.

The Dominican Republic got hurricane conditions from Jeanne and had trouble. Haiti had tropical depression conditions and a death toll of more than 2,000 thanks to all the rain.

Barring anything unforseen, Dean's going to hit something. Probably a number of somethings.

I think it's Hispaniola, not Hispanola.

I appreciate the offer, but methinks with my new job, I'll be put into service pretty damn quickly.

Erin crossed over Corpus Christi around 7 a.m. Central, now a tropically depressed rainmaker. She's taking Wellbutrin for her condition right now.

As for Dean, he's popping some Cialis, Viagra and other male potent medicinal pills to pump up the heat.

Oh ... heavy rains just now hitting me at 8:15 a.m. Central here in Austin. Supposed to rain all day today and Friday. That's right ... coming on the heels of 20- to 25-plus inches here in the Central Texas area this summer.

Hurricane season. Thar she blows. :)
