If sports and such can have Part 2's, Dean can, too, I guess.

Anyway, interesting bit of news from his Kingdom. E-mail went out today saying payments - freelancers, other expenses - were going "on hold" again. Just like in December 2007. Payments won't go out, it says, until the second week of April.

    Wow. Can't pay the bills.

I have seen the e-mail through a regular Pipeline contributor. Asked not to publish it verbatim.

This was on the other thread, but his credit rating was cut twice last week. This on the heels of buyouts/layoffs/firings.

To borrow a favorite phrase from some of the personal threads... this won't end well.

Thanks for doing work for us in February, but we can't pay you until April...

    *Phew*

I thought for a moment this thread would be about a second Lean Dean.

Don't scare us like that Moddy! One is more than bad enough!

While I'm not condoning this, at least people know.
Other papers have subscribed to this method for years. I've done freelance assignments for publications that have taken as long as six months to pay. Sometimes, I'll get the "Oh, we lost your address," bit. Others, it's just that I can't get someone to call or email me back when I ask.
I usually give papers a full month to get my payments to me before I ever try to contact them again. Let's just say a good portion of the time, I'm generally emailing just about every paper I've done work for.

A good buddy of mine and former PTer at one of the SoCal papers he's currently running into the seventh level of hell just strung three soccer section playoff championship games for this paper. He's had trouble getting $$$ from them in the past, so I can only imagine the teeth he'll have to extract here.

This, however, is long overdue. I'm surprised it took this long for Lean Dean to start hearing the chant "O-V-E-R-L-E-V-E-R-A-G-E-D"

I wonder if he's getting his checks on time?

I thought this was about Gannett head Craig Dubow getting a fat bonus for all he did for the company last year. What did he do for the company last year, helped crash the stock from $60 a share to under $30. Great job dude! And thanks for helping kill your employees 401k's and keeping raises below the amount of the increase in health care pay-ins. I wonder what his self-evaluation said?

I think it went something like: Gosh, I'm terrific. bring that Brinks truck straight to the house.
