How did I like those movies so much as a kid? When you're 8, a couple of gadgets can cover up so much bad, bad movie. For somebody to have greenlighted Roger Moore -- then 82*, I think -- as James Bond in 1985, I'm not sure how such things happened.

*82, and able to bag Grace Jones for no apparent reason, save rakish charm and liver spots

  2. It was definitely the gadgets. ABC must have owned the rights to show the James Bond movies because it used to run them on Sunday nights in the late 1980s, when I was about 10. I’d watch whatever movie they showed, even A View to a Kill. Now when I see them on Spike, I realize how horrible most of the non-Connery ones are. I’m a big OHMSS fan. I think it’s an excellent story, maybe the best book, and I’d love to see a remake done right.

I liked Connery’s first four movies, OHMSS, GoldenEye and Casino Royale. The rest I can do without, though I can’t quite bring myself to say I hate Live and Let Die or The Spy Who Loved Me. The latter was one of my favorites as a kid, probably because of the white Lotus.

That's just because you think the song is about you, don't you?
