Heard today that the Waco Tribune-Herald laid off 11 yesterday, including the editor. I haven't heard yet where the other cuts were. And I can't find a link to the story.

Probably because you have to have a paid subscription to the paper.

For those who care, here's the typical news story on this sort of topic.

    Well somebody got screwed anyway.

TV stations are all too eager to publicize a newspaper's misfortune.

EIC Carlos Sanchez, who's been with the paper since 2001, was the only cut in the newsroom. The publisher now assumes dual roles. The other 10 came from circulation and advertising. Sports was unscathed, but it was close.

Looking at it the wrong way.
newspapers are big at trying to get other business to talk about their layoffs, but don't hold (lower?) themselves to the same standard. Other media -- electronic, on-line -- are happy to fill that void.

  11. The old "we're growing too much and it's increasing our paper and ink costs" excuse gets me every time.

I think there are only like three people in the entire sports department now. Who could they cut?
