Layoffs in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Review-Journal laid off at least 22, mostly in the newsroom, on Thursday. The staff was only around 130 before the departures.

Three of the losses were in the sports department: Steve Guiremand, who joined the desk after Rebel Nation folded; Dennis Rudner, an assistant sports editor; and Jeff Wolf, mainly a motorsports writer.

My interactions with Wolf were always good. Sad to hear it.

I've worked with Jeff a lot over the years and I'm very sad to hear the news. He was one of the good guys out there.

130 at the whole paper or just the newsroom?

I'm heartbroken. What the fuck is wrong with our fucking business.

Sad tidings to all who lost their jobs but it's time to move forward.
Turn it into a positive career juncture.
I was on the Dallas Times Herald staff when 900 people lost their jobs.
We all got three months of salary as severance but we were all worried as hell about the future.
Good luck to those in Las Vegas and at other places where layoffs are affecting this business.

In the newsroom, including online editorial staff.

Damn, that's harsh the way they did it. At least when they made huge cuts at our place a while back they gave us two months notice and a much better package.

Sounds exactly like Stephens Media, then.
