Texas waits until 10-ish tonight, the Friday before the Super Bowl, to issue a press release about an assistant coach banging a student.

Reading between the lines it appears Bev Kearney was or is planning to sue the university over her termination. Can't see any other reason to release a statement on something that happened four years ago.

Edit to add: Apparently this came to light because Kearney's lawyer was threatening to file an FOI request on discipline issues for every male professor and coach at the university.

I've heard of several grad assistants and assistants who eventually married students etc. Have to figure this was a female student in the football program right? A manager or intern or something?

The Major is looking at 10 years of hard time, the way the Texas statute is written: "Sexual relationship between an educator and a student."

Doesn't matter whether female-male, male-female, samey-samey or what age. Sucks for you, T-sippers.

Reading the ESPN piece, it said UT requires staff to report any and all relationships with students to determine if their is a conflict of interest, IE grades, job favoritism, etc. But if it's a "one and done" and there is no "relationship" is it a thing?

According to the Austin American Statesman the policy reads as follows:

UT faculty or staff members in supervisory positions must report any consensual relationship with an “employee, student and/or student employee who is directly supervised, taught, evaluated or advised by that employee.

As long as she wasn't working for Applewhite he seems to be in the clear regarding the policy.

Of course he was also banging said student just a few weeks before his wife had their first baby.

UT also says he reported it and was disciplined, unlike Kearney who did not report it and was engaging in a relationship with an athlete who was directly under her supervision.

I also think DeLoss Dodds may be in hotter water than Applewhite because it sounds like the BoR was not aware of the Applewhite situation until now.

Where does it say the relationship was with a female?

It's not a policy. It is a state law.

It doesn't. Speculation is that it was a female trainer.

What's really interesting is that Chris Simms started to have sex with her but Mack benched him and sent Major in to finish.
