    Sure we can, and we do, because cheerleading mommies have bulldozed athletic directors and state athletic associations into folding on the issue, and once armed with the "official sport" designation, their next step is to call the sports editors and bitch about coverage.

    At our papers, cheerleading gets roughly one story per year. You know why? It makes for great art.

    Smiles, laughs, tricks, it's a great thing to have to work a section around.

    It's not football, basketball or baseball but it's not going to kill people to put it in once or twice.

    It's Title Nine Fraud because it's a cheapass way to "create" a female sport. I want the first legal case to stand for Spelling Bees as a sport. Remember, these are on ESPN, so they must be a sport.
