Well, this will look awkward after the Granny's post... but I stayed at the Monte Carlo this summer and really liked it. Just got a deal emailed to me today - third night free, rates start at $69. Man whores not included, presumably. Very nice hotel, good location.

The Riviera is way overdue for sprucing up. The food could stand an upgrade too.

I'll be in Vegas Thursday, staying four nights free at Palazzo on a huge stroke of luck -- I was out there in April and my sister and I did the Strip walk one day, stopped at the Venetian to get players cards and free crap, we maybe put $20 in a slot machine. Ever since then I've been getting free room offers and am finally using one this weekend. They will soon find out I'm not enough of a high-roller to deserve a comped room that would normally go for $250 a night. Infact I'll do most of my gambling downtown. Love the old-school joints.

All of the above? Seriously, I used to go 3-4 times a year for about eight or nine years but haven't been back in almost six years. More than anything, I just want to get away for a few days, gamble a bit and check out all the changes around town. Hence the reason for trying to keep the cost down. I'll only be there about 65 hours. Two full days and parts of two others. I'm planning on getting a car too.

Ugh, you can have the Palazzo, playthrough.

We went to have dinner at Bouchon in the Venezia area and I got so annoyed by the Eurotrash that just overruns that place.

This is probably a good topic for another thread, but those of us who are comped could enlighten others as to how to get to that point.

For MGM/Mirage properties, they want $25/hand-spin or $50+/roll for food/beverage (basically clear off your room charges if you're staying there) and a free three-night return stay with food credit. Full RFB (room-food-beverage) and the "Las Vegas"-esque perks comes at different levels depending on the hotel.

If I were you, unless you have some sort of deal to stay at the Rivera, I would tell you to move down the strip and stay at Harrahs or the Flamingo, only because they are in the middle of the action with almost every major casino in walking distance.

The Imperial Palace is cheaper and in the middle of everything too, but if I were you, I would spend the extra bucks and stay at Harrahs or the Flamingo.

Flamingo is gross and overpriced, unless you're in a GO! room. You can stay at Bill's Gambling Hall for the same price (or less) than the 'Mingo and it's a lot smaller and easier to navigate.

Plus, it has Big Elvis. And who doesn't love a fat Elvis impersonator?

To get comps: My best advice is to play, play and play. If you are good enough to sit a table for a few hours and break even - or at least not get smacked - you should be able to start getting comps.

For me, I like the Harrahs casinos, because I work in this business and I rather bet 10 bucks a hand rather than 25. Harrahs will take your card. Also like MGM/Mirage, Harrahs owns like 7 casinos on the strip, so if you don't like one place you can go to another.

But be careful with Harrahs if you play blackjack, because if you sit at the wrong table, you will be getting paid 6-5 for a natural rather than a 3-2. Just read the rules before you sit and you will be fine.

Yeah - good luck finding a 3-2 table on the Strip these days. Especially on the weekends.

The Mirage has one and the minimum can be $25, even on a Tuesday.

But there are no man whores at the Mirage. Skip it.

I was there back in June and there are 3-2 tables for 10 or 15 bucks. There a few, but they are usually filled.
