SPORTS REPORTER: The Las Cruces Sun-News is seeking a sports reporter for its Silver City edition. The bureau is located in the beautiful high country of southwestern New Mexico.

Aside from high school sports in the area, Silver City also offers Western New Mexico University, a Division-II college.

We are looking for someone with an independent mind, willing to cover sports outside of the general realm. While football, basketball and baseball remain king, Silver City offers outdoor activities as well, such as hiking, fishing and golf. The renowned Tour of the Gila bike race is a popular summer-time event in the area.

Basic requirements include a degree in journalism or related field, and some reporting experience. Web savvy and other tech skills are a definite plus.

I never would have guess that this small a place would have a bureau more than 100 miles away in a non D-I town. Silver City is charming on a certain antiques-and-mountain-air sort of way.
